About
Robin Wright King is an author, lecturer and father advocate living in Dearborn, Michigan. She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University and a M.B.A. from the University of Detroit.
Her first book, "Papa Was A Rolling Stone: A Daughter's Journey to Forgiveness" is a compelling story of father absence and the impact on the female child. Her book makes a strong case for fathers and the critical role they play in the lives of their daughters.
Robin’s powerful message of hope and inspiration is based on her experience growing up without her father. She longed to have the typical ‘father-daughter’ relationship; however, he chose to have no involvement in her life. Reaching adulthood, she continued to be troubled by her fathers’ absence and began to study the father absence crisis in the United States. She was particularly interested in the impact father absence has on African American women and girls. She found substantial data that reported the impact of father absence for boys in general and specifically, African American boys, but very little about girls and almost nothing for African American girls.
Wright King is an expert in father advocacy and a sought after national speaker on the impact of father absence for African American girls. Among her numerous awards, she received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award for her work with fathers and daughters by the The Fathers and Families Coalition of America. They honored her contribution to highlight the father-daughter relationship and the critical role fathers play to nurture and raise emotionally successful children. She received an honor from the National Partnership for Community Leadership for her contributions to the fatherhood movement and efforts to educate fathers and mothers about the impact of father absence.
Robin is married to Rev. Dr. Oscar King, III, the Pastor of Northwest Unity Missionary Baptist Church and is the mother of two sons Roderick and Ryan Brown and bonus mother to Nicole and Khari King. She commutes weekly to Boston, where is employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as the Director of Consumer Directed Healthcare.
